All About Me Tech Talk
Aaron 5K
The 5th
grade at Prophetstown Elementary School did an All About Me project. We used Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. We made a slideshow about ourselves showing
where we’ve been on vacation, our family, and what we like to do when we have
free time. We also got to insert pictures that we brought and scanned or
emailed. We put one picture on each slide.
I learned a lot about the new program. I learned how insert sound on a
slide. I liked how we got to express ourselves and show how we live our lives
in a slideshow.
Veteran's
Day Tech Talk
Sydnie 5K
Kids at PES grades 3-5 are working on a
slideshow for our Veteran's Day assembly.
We used books and Internet sites. We used PowerPoint to design our slide. I learned all about the National Guard while
doing this project. I enjoyed doing this project a lot, but my favorite thing
about this project was creating my own picture and learning how to use some of
the tools I didn't know how to use before I started my PowerPoint.
Monster Exchange Tech Talk
Jessica 4S
The fourth
grade classes at Prophetstown Elementary School have been working on a Monster
Exchange Project. We drew the monsters
on Paint. We used Word to type the steps
to draw our monster. Then we exchanged
the steps to our monsters to see if other kids could draw them. If kids did have problems, we had to show
them what it looked like and rewrite the words on our steps so it would be
easier to draw. The monsters we drew
will be on line at this website. http://www.plt3.org/pes/projects.html Class 4S drew the monsters from Bells
Elementary School in New Jersey. I
learned that if
you draw your monster with details, it’s going to be hard to put in words. I liked drawing the monsters from the New
Jersey Elementary School. My monster
that I drew was named Vampire Fairy and it was cool to draw.
Internet
Safety Tech Talk
Jena 5C
At PES, the two fifth grade classes
have been learning about Internet Safety. One of my favorite websites we went
on is called FBI-SOS. On that website, we would do scavenger hunts and we would
take a test. One thing that I learned was that if you wanted to, you could
install an anti- virus program on to your computer. We also made a brochure on Publisher. Also, for our brochure, we made an outline on
Inspiration. My favorite part about this
project was doing the scavenger hunts. I
also enjoyed making a brochure because I have never made one before. I loved doing this project and I wish we
could do it again.
Hawksbill
Sea Turtle Tech Talk
By Sydnie 5K
The 5th grade classes at PES have been learning about Sea
Turtles in computer class. My partner
and I got a turtle called the Hawksbill Sea Turtle. We used the Internet and
learned really cool facts about our turtle. Some of the programs we used are
PowerPoint, Inspiration, and Landmark Citation Machine. PowerPoint is a program
that we use to make a slide show . Inspiration is a
program that we used to keep our facts on, and Landmark Citation is a site that
we used to tell where we got our information. We made a slide show to show our
class about our sea turtle. I learned a lot of facts about the Hawksbill Sea
Turtle and one of my favorite facts is that the Hawksbill Sea Turtle got its
name because it looks like it has a Hawk’s bill! My favorite part about the
project was learning about the Hawksbill Sea Turtle and working with other
people and learning to use team work. I had lots of fun learning about the
Hawksbill Sea Turtle and sharing it with my classmates.
Animal
Slideshow Tech Talk
C.J.-3B
The third
grade classes at PES chose an animal to learn more about. We wrote a report for our science class. I also made a clay carp that kind of looks
like my animal. Then, we took our report
to the computer lab and made a slideshow.
I learned how to make a slideshow on the computer. My favorite part of the whole project was
making the slideshow.
Fun Words Tech Talk
Grant 4W
The 4th grade students at
PES have been learning about fun words.
Two fun words are oxymorons and stinky
pinkies. We each had a partner. First,
Mrs. Megli gave us a word. Next, we went to the Internet and looked for our
word. Then we started Microsoft
PowerPoint 2010. We spent two weeks working on the PowerPoint. After that, Mrs. Megli told us how to do
timings for our shows. The next day, we started presentations. Everyone showed
their classmates what their word was. We also gave examples and where we got
information. I learned how to rehearse
timings. I liked this project because it gave us a chance to learn about
PowerPoint.
Simple Machines Tech Talk
Harrison 4W
The 4th
Grade classes at PES have been learning about simple machines and compound
machines. We used the Edheads website. We made paper screws in our Science class,
and we did projects about simple machines.
Also, we looked at some pulleys in our Science class. I learned that
pulleys come in all sizes, and screws are inclined planes. I liked making
screws and doing the Edheads website. The simple
machines are inclined plane, pulley, screw, gear, wedge, lever, and the wheel
and axle. This was a really fun unit.
Famous African- Americans Tech Talk
MacKenzie 5K
The 5th grade students
at PES have been researching on famous African-Americans. The person I had was
Louis Armstrong. I thought he was very interesting. I believe we all used a lot of sites. We used
the programs Inspiration and Microsoft Power Point. One of Internet sites I
used was http://emersonswingcombo.com
. I learned a lot about Louis Armstrong.
One fact is, he was a famous trumpet player. Also, I
learned how to put frames around your picture on the computer. The thing I
liked about this project was that you get to learn a bunch about people that
you probably didn’t even know existed. The thing that topped it all was that I
got to learn about someone I didn’t know.
Iditarod Tech Talk
Owen 5-C
The 4th
and 5th grade students at PES have been learning about the
Iditarod. The Iditarod is a dog sled
race. The musher is the one who controls
the dogs. We each drew a musher out of a
box. We learned about that musher and
filled out a sheet that tracked what checkpoint they were at. A checkpoint in the Iditarod is a place where
they can stop and rest or go on through.
My musher is Michael Williams Jr.
He finished in 13th.
The mushers need to take good care of their dogs. First, in the project, we filled out our
musher sheet. Then we made an Inspiration
outline to plan out our PowerPoint after we found out facts about our musher
and the Iditarod. Then, we made our PowerPoint. A PowerPoint is a slide show on the computer.
In this project, I learned that the
Iditarod musher, John Baker, set a record for finishing the Iditarod in the
fastest time ever. I liked the project.
