Dear Families,
I want to take a moment to recognize the tireless service and dedication of our bus drivers. These individuals play a critical role in ensuring our students arrive safely to and from school each day, often navigating challenging schedules and circumstances.
Unfortunately, like many districts across the nation, we are facing a significant shortage of bus drivers and currently have no substitute drivers available. This reality puts us in a difficult position when a driver must be off work, which can happen for a variety of valid reasons, including personal or health-related matters.
We fully understand the burden this places on families when a route is shifted to self-transport due to driver unavailability. Please know we empathize with the challenges this creates, and we deeply appreciate your understanding and flexibility during these times.
The Board of Education is actively exploring potential solutions to address this shortage, including alternate job roles and other incentives to attract new drivers.
If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a bus driver—whether part-time, during specific times of the day, or as a substitute—we encourage you to contact Dawn Fisk at 815-718-2311. Your support could make a significant difference for our students and community.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and partnership as we work through these challenges together.
Sincerely,
Heidi L. Lensing
Superintendent

Dear Families,
With the excessive heat today, we understand that some parents may prefer to pick up their children from school rather than have them ride the bus. If you plan to pick up your child, please notify the office of your child's school as soon as possible.
Please also be aware that the reduced number of students riding the bus may lead to earlier drop-off times at home than usual.
Please take note of the changes to athletic practices and rescheduling of golf and cross country meets.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Sincerely,
Heidi Lensing, Superintendent

Prophetstown and Erie have participated in cooperative athletics for over 25 years now beginning with wrestling, baseball, softball, and track in 1998. Our partnership continues to grow and has never been stronger.
Both districts have been exploring school reorganizational methods as defined by the Illinois State Board of Education.
At this time our districts are not aligned in regards to the type of reorganization path that should be taken. The PLT School Board prefers a cooperative high school path, however the Erie School Board does not prefer this option as they will lose a layer of local control over the High School Building in Erie for a minimum of 20 years. While Erie would prefer a deactivation or dissolution path, PLT is in a strong position at this time and does not see those as viable options for the district.
Both districts are willing and open to continue sharing resources to the best of our abilities and will continue to discover new ways we can continue to help one another and strengthen our bonds.

Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico CUSD #3 Families,
I want to update you on the serious motor vehicle crash involving our students that has shaken our community today.
It is with great sadness that I must inform you that three children have passed away. These students attended PLT Middle School and PLT High School.
Our district is committed to doing everything we can to help our students with the grieving and healing process. To that end, we have activated our crisis counseling team to be at PLT Middle/High School (38 Ferry Street, Prophetstown) tomorrow, Friday, March 29th beginning at 9:00am. There will be counselors, social workers, and area ministers present to support our community.
This loss will affect everyone in our school family and in the Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico Community. Students may have a difficult time dealing with the loss, and we encourage you to talk with your child.
At this time, the district will not be releasing the name of the student out of respect for the privacy of the families.
Sincerely,
Heidi Lensing, Superintendent
