Thank you to our Masonic Lodge #293, Semper Fi, and EP Insurance for helping to fund our Books for Bikes program. The students spent the last couple of months checking out books from our library and reading as many books as they could get their hands on! This amazing opportunity provided 4 bikes, one for each grade level to our winners. Our winners were: Kindergarten: Legend McEvoy; 1st Grade: Ariah Gengler; 2nd Grade: Brynlie Snowden; and 3rd Grade: Abby Retherford.

Happy Earth Day! Today third graders had the opportunity to tour Prairie HIll Landfill in Morrison, IL and enjoy nature at Rockwood State Park to celebrate Earth Day. Students were able to learn how landfill science works, as well as tour the landfill as its daily operations were underway. Students learned about the importance of "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle", by playing a recycling game as well. Thank you to the staff at Prairie Hill for the excellent tour and for taking time to educate our students!

We have had two weeks of Mindful Me! Please check out this update from Miss T on the exciting things happening during our Mindful Me days! This week, our focus was on mindful listening. During our class, we began by listening to a story about a girl in need of a quiet place to escape from a noisy environment. Following the story, the students engaged in a guided relaxation exercise to practice mindfulness. To wrap up the session, the kids had the opportunity to express their creativity by drawing a picture of their own quiet places. I appreciate your child's attentiveness and engagement during these sessions. There is one more session left with Mindful Me, so please stay tuned for more updates!

We have had two weeks of Mindful Me! Please check out this update from Miss T o n the exciting things happening during our Mindful Me days! During our lesson with Mindful Me, the students engaged in a wonderful story about coping strategies to help them calm their emotions. Following the story, they had the opportunity to create their very own calming jars. I encourage you to ask your student about how the jar works and what they learned from the activity. Miss Thies

Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico CUSD #3 Families, I want to update you on the serious motor vehicle crash involving our students that has shaken our community today. It is with great sadness that I must inform you that three children have passed away. These students attended PLT Middle School and PLT High School. Our district is committed to doing everything we can to help our students with the grieving and healing process. To that end, we have activated our crisis counseling team to be at PLT Middle/High School (38 Ferry Street, Prophetstown) tomorrow, Friday, March 29th beginning at 9:00am. There will be counselors, social workers, and area ministers present to support our community. This loss will affect everyone in our school family and in the Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico Community. Students may have a difficult time dealing with the loss, and we encourage you to talk with your child. At this time, the district will not be releasing the name of the student out of respect for the privacy of the families. Sincerely, Heidi Lensing, Superintendent
