Last week, the students engaged in various activities to help them recognize and express their emotions. We started by reading a short story that discussed different feelings and what they might feel like. Following this, we practiced describing objects using descriptive language - such as a mouse being sneaky or quiet, or a sun being warm and bright. To conclude the lesson, the students were encouraged to draw a picture that represents a feeling without using any words. It was heartwarming to see many students choosing to draw things that bring them joy. Overall, it was a meaningful and engaging activity that allowed the students to practice recognizing and understanding the emotions they experience.

This week in Mindful Me, we explored the benefits of being present and the joy that comes from living in the moment. Our students engaged in group discussions, listened to a captivating short story, and embarked on a classroom scavenger hunt to practice mindfulness. To conclude the lesson, each student decorated a bracelet as a tangible reminder to 'stay present'. Each student also received a flyer with information about joining 4H, which could be a wonderful opportunity for them.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with Mindful Me! The skills and lessons being taught are reinforcing February's characteristic, mindfulness. Our students explored the concept of affirmations through the story "Have you filled a bucket today?". In class, they had the opportunity to create their own "bucket" and write affirmations for their peers. It was a wonderful exercise in kindness and positivity. I encourage you to have a conversation with your student about their bucket and different ways it can be filled. Best Regards, Miss Thies Counselor

The first day of Mindful Me was great! We explored the concept of mindful eating through a fun story called “No Ordinary Apple”. Each class learned ways they can use all five senses while eating. For example, the students took a close look at an apple, identifying its vibrant colors. They then practiced mindful eating with a slice of an apple, discussing new discoveries. We encourage you to continue this practice at home. Your child also received a handout with more information.

Good morning! We will start at regular time this morning. Start at 8:00/8:20 - students dismissed at 11:30/11:50.

Dear PLT Families, I am continuing to monitor weather updates issued by the National Weather Service. There is a chance of continued poor weather conditions that may impact us tomorrow morning. If we are able to start at regular time in the morning, we will continue with our half day student dismissal. If we need to delay the start of school, we would cancel the scheduled early out and have students in school until regular (full day) dismissal time. In review: If we start at 8:00/8:20 - students dismissed at 11:30/11:50 If we start at 10:00/10:20 - students dismissed at 3:00/3:20 I appreciate your understanding as we navigate the Midwest weather conditions that have been thrown at us this month.
